Banana Island
1500 NW 23rd Street, 405-601-1888. Malaysian and Thai food. Been there, ate that, really great. Unusual food by OKC standards. Try the Malaysian pancake, just get it plain. It's like a giant slightly sweet tortilla, dip in their hottest sauce. The chicken version is like a giant Asian hot pocket. This is just a few blocks from my house, I wandered in one day and was a bit intimidated by the gigantic menu. So I said, "How about some pan-fried egg noodles, with a brown sauce, chicken, and veggies and make it so hot I sweat." They said, "No problem" and soon came from the kitchen a delicious dish. . . but it wasn't hot enough. It was hot by American standards, but I wanted it hot by Malaysian standards. The waiter was dubious, but even so he brought me more hot sauce and that made it perhaps the best dish of noodles, chicken, and veggies I've ever had at an Asian restaurant. Yes, I've been back, several times. Open until midnight every night. Review.
